The Bass Foundation attempts to address the widespread need experienced by so many underserved residents of New Jersey. In 1992, our Founder & President, Thomas Bass, rented a truck, filled it with warm winter clothing and drove through the streets of Newark to distribute coats to the homeless. As the Foundation grew, we established relationships in communities throughout New Jersey, and through research were able to make our donation of goods more need-specific.
Today, the Bass Foundation continues today to provide goods and services with an intense focus on programming that encourages higher academic achievement, literacy, college preparedness and life skills. We have launched a food support program, where weekly we deliver
80 filled bags to the Louverture Elementary School in East Orange which contain nourishing kid-friendly meals and healthy snacks to help kids whose families are struggling. We have opened an after-school Bass Learning Center in East Orange to help students who are struggling to achieve success in school. On Saturdays, we offer a mentoring program to boys who lack a father figure in their lives.
Our motto is "Heart-to-heart, changing lives one at a time." To that end, we have established many programs that encourage children in inner-city communities to reach higher and to recognize that greatness is within their grasp. We try to focus on each individual one-on-one, to create a bond of trust and honesty, so that we can determine how best to help them.
Our vision is to seek out the need in the community at-large and address it in a way that creates a better life for all our recipients.
